The idea that I've chosen is a Drama which follows the life of 17 year old David.
However, I will make changes and instead of the protagonist being the a male, it will be a female, Rebecca.
A troubled youth who struggles to maintain the two contrasting and contradicting lifestyles she strives to balance. One lifestyles where she proves to be intelligent, focused, and academically excelleing. Another, where her conealed anger and matryred scilence is released through engagement of criminal, delinquent activiteies with his fellow gang members.
Rebecca comes from the "typical single-parent' family and suffers from material deprivation and peer pressure. The combination of a lack of father figure, disconnection with her mother and having very little money provokes her to join a ruthless gang where she seeks family and belonging.
She is consumed with the thought that despite her intelligence academically, she doesn't have a future so she has to conform to the stereotype of black youths suffering from material deprivation and instability in homes who become being unruly and dangerous. One day, Rebecca is confronted by these two lifestyles and she has to make a choice on which path she wants to continue to lead.

When..
the gang plan a major fight with the conflicting gang; Rebecca is appointed to stab the leader of the opposing gang. On the same day is her major exam for a scholarship to an American university. It will remain ambiguious the choice that Rebecca makes and the result of her choice.
I chose this idea because its one that I can easily express and fully illustrate into a film, in order to make it of high standard. Mainly because I have been around people who have encountered these kind of issues or have been in similar predicaments in previous years. I've lived in an area where knife crime and gang culture has been at its highest point, therefore I would easily be able to fully properly convey this idea into a film. In addition to this other successful British films such as 'My murder' 'Kidulthood' and 'sket' all share similar context and have influenced this idea. This could be seen as a disadvantage as my film may then be easily compared to one of these films. Normal people in society will be able to relate to the context, and many young people take interest in such topics and so it will attract my desired target audience of young people under 25; to be specific 15 year olds upwards.
